  • Professor Furong Xu's group is interested in theoretical nuclear structure, focusing on various model developments and calculations of nuclear structures and decays, knocking the fundamental questions of nuclear physics and astrophysics, struggling with nuclear forces and many-body quantum correlations.

  • Ab-initio methods:
    • Starting from the first principles and with modern nuclear forces (e.g., chiral effective field theory, N3LO), we are developing nuclear ab-initio methods which include many-body perturbation theory (MBPT), shell model, Green's Function, Bruckner-Hartree-Fock, random phase approximation (RPA). Three-body force is considered in the calculations.
    Shell Model:
    • With the Gogny force, we are developing the calculations of two-body and effective three-body matrix elements for shell model calculations. The calculations can be applied to heavy mass regions and exotic nuclei.
    Configuration-constrained cranking Skyrme Hartree-Fock-Pairing:
    • With the Skyrme force, we are developing configuration-constrained cranking Hartree-Fock-Pairing model, which can be used to calculate nuclear rotational bands built on excited configurations (so called sidebands).
